About Us
The LaGrange Church of Christ is a non-denominational group of
Christians meeting in LaGrange, GA to work and worship as a local
church. We have no written creed other than the instructions given by
Christ and His apostles in the pages of the New Testament. We belong to
no denomination, human organization, or association of churches. We are
independent, self-governing, Bible-believing, and Christ-centered.
What to
Expect If You Visit With Us
We assemble on Sundays to worship God and memorialize the sacrifice of
the Son of God, Jesus Christ, by partaking of the Lord's Supper
(1Corinthians 11:23-26). We do this every first day of the week (cf.
Acts 20:7).
We sing praises to God and spiritual songs that edify and admonish each
of us (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). We sing without a choir and
without instruments. Every member of our congregation is equally united
in the service of God through song. No individual or group is singled
out. The instruments we use in the praise of God are our hearts, which
are full of grace and joy as we sing to our Lord and about Him.
We pray together to God through our Mediator, Jesus Christ (1Timothy
2:5). While
various men lead the congregation in prayer at each assembly, all of us
pray together, lifting our hearts and hopes to God as we unite silently
in reverence before His throne and joining together in saying, "Amen"
to the thoughts thus expressed in our prayers.
We study together from the word of God, giving reverent attention to
the 66 books of the Bible as the divine source of truth and guidance
for our daily lives (2Timothy 3:14-4:2). Our studies take various
forms. Preaching is delivered before the entire assembly on Sunday
mornings. Classes are also held on Sundays, divided according to
various age groups and themes, for
further examination, discussion, and application of Bible teaching. We
also have individual and small group Bible studies throughout the week
in various homes and public locations at the request and
convenience of the participants.
When we assembly on Sundays, a freewill financial offering is made by
the members of our congregation (1Corinthians 16:1-2). This collection
is not a solicitation of funds from the general assembly, nor are
visitors requested or invited to participate. The financial support of
our congregation is solely the responsibility of our adult members who
have committed themselves to participating in the work here. These
contributions are made only on Sundays. No mandates or suggestions are
made as to how much any member ought to give, nor are records kept of
what individuals members have given. The contributions are private and
personal. You will never be asked to give when you visit with us, nor
are our members ever pressured to give a specific percentage or amount
of their money to the church.
